Celebrating 24 years, The Relay for Life of Whiteside County was held Saturday June 8th, at Westwood Fitness and Sports Center in Sterling. 12 teams came together for the common cause in the fight against cancer as well as to celebrate survivorship, and remember those who put up a courageous battle against this disease.

Denise MacLaren is Senior Community Development Manager with The American Cancer Society. Her district is here in the northern part of Illinois out of Rockford. Denise  is very involved with the Whiteside relay, from the pie auction on WSDR April 5th, the survivor dinner, and various fundraisers in between. I spent a few moments with Denise to talk about the ACS CAN, expanding the relay for 2020, and the amazing work of the Whiteside County Relay Team.

Chris and Marla from St. Anne Cancer Crusaders from Dixon were also at this years relay. Marla is celebrating the 27th year in winning the battle over cancer. This was the 2nd year at the Whiteside Relay. They are both happy about the expansion that in 2020, includes the whole Sauk Valley.
