Did you check your shoes for treats this morning ?  December 6th is St. Nicholas Day.  The legendary St. Nicholas is derived from Nicholas of Myra who was a bishop in in 4th century in the region that is now known as Turkey.  During his lifetime he was known as a gift –giver and would put coins and gifts in people shoes.  European and some American children 

leave their shoes out to receive treats from St. Nicholas on December 6th.   Legend also says that those who are naughty will find a lump of coal or switch in their shoe.
