The Quad-City Storm will begin their inaugural season this Saturday when they take the ice against the Peoria Rivermen. The Storm will start its season with Dave Pszenyczny as the their head coach, which will be a great asset for he was a player in the Southern Professional Hockey League just last year. With the local ownerships love for hockey and a passionate fan base, it looks like the Storm will be a main-stay in the Quad-City area for years to come.

Monday Morning Scoreboard 10-15-2018

Newman (7-1) 47-12 Fulton (4-4)

The Newman Comets came out absolutely on fire against the Fulton Steamers with 426 rushing yards. The Comets were able to consistently gash the Steamers defense with big plays. The main contributor on offense was Connor McBride who carried the ball 13 times for 200 yards and three touchdowns. Mcbride had touchdown runs of 70,69, and 6 yards. Also, near the end of the third quarter McBride provided another big play with a 80 yard kick-off return touchdown. Quarterback Brycen Bartel took a quarterback keeper 69 yards for a touchdown on his only run of the game and fullback Luke Olsen carried the ball eight times for 97 yards and two touchdowns. Out of Olsen's 97 rushing yards, 56 yards came on a long touchdown run in the fourth quarter. The Comets looked a lot sharper than last week against Hall where they turned the ball over twice and had countless penalties. The Comets have now won five in a row and will match up with Riverdale in the last regular season game of the year.

Sterling (8-0) 49-12 LaSalle-Peru (3-5)

The Sterling Golden Warriors continued to roll remaining undefeated as they dominated LP 49-12. The Warriors racked up over 400 yards of offense in the first half and quarterback Cooper Wilman had 127 rushing yards with three touchdowns. Quarterback Camden Bailey went a perfect 9 for 9 for 208 passing yards and two touchdowns. Receiver Alek Duran has been relatively quite this season, but broke out with two touchdown grabs and also a rushing touchdown. The Warrior defense held LaSalle-Peru in check limiting them to under 67 yards of offense in the first half. The 12 points LP was able to muster came in the second half against the second team defense. The Golden Warriors will finish its regular season against the Sycamore Spartans, who just came off a 36-6 victory over Geneseo, this upcoming Friday.

Rock Falls (1-7) 34-6 Mendota (0-8)

The Rockets were able to break their seven game losing streak as they beat up the Trojans. The Rockets changed things up this week and relied on their running game producing over 350 yards on the ground. The Rock Falls defense swarmed to the ball and caused a lot of negative plays. In previous occasions the Rock Falls offense was able to put up points, but the defense was unable to make the necessary stops to put them in a position to win. The Rockets will have another opportunity to grab another win this Friday as they take on Rockford Lutheran this Friday.

Rockridge (6-2) 37-25 Morrison (2-6)

Hall (5-3) 49-0 EP (1-7)

Dixon (6-2) 23-20 Winnebago (4-4)

Monday Morning Scoreboard 10-8-2018

Sterling (7-0) 23-20 Rochelle (3-4)

The Sterling Golden Warriors stay perfect with a nail-biting victory over the Rochelle Hubs. The Golden Warriors took a 17-6 lead early in the third quarter when Isaiah Ryan scored on a 16 yard play on fourth down. Ryan and Devante Johnson were utilized more this week due to injuries to Marquez Williams and Negil Bruce. Both performed well as Ryan totaled 92 yards and two touchdowns and Johnson totaled 101 yards. However, Rochelle stormed back with a long 7 play drive that ended with a Eddie Villalobos touchdown run to make the score 17-13. Rochelle's defense was able to hold Sterling on their next two possessions and put together a fantastic 16 play drive that ended on a two yard touchdown run to give Rochelle the lead 20-17 with only 37 seconds left on the clock. With about 23 seconds to play in the game Golden Warrior quarterback Cooper Willman was able to find Weston Sisson on a huge 45 yard pass play to give the Warriors a chance. The Hubs defense was able to sack Willman to push them back to the 30 yard line which made the Warriors burn their last timeout with five seconds left to play. Willman was able to complete the improbable comeback with a 30 yard bomb to Sisson as time expired to give the Warriors the win on one of the most improbable comebacks in Sterling history.

Newman (6-1) 27-0 Hall (4-3)

The Newman Comets cruised to victory over the Hall Red Devils Saturday afternoon. However, there were countless penalties that would give Hall more chances to put points on the board. On a fourth and one play the Hall Red Devils were able to draw the Comets offsides to pick up an easy first down and more importantly keep their drive alive. The Comets also turned the ball over twice on offense when quarterback Brycen Bartel bobbled the exchange between himself and the center. Also, Brody Ivey was stripped and the ball was recovered by the Red Devils. The Comets defense overall did a pretty good job generating three turnovers, but the penalties were the main issue. Luke Olsen was your player of the game and provided a spark in the third quarter with a 85 yard touchdown run. Olsen ran for over 100 yards and had two touchdowns. Connor McBride also had two touchdown runs. There are only a couple of games left in the regular season and the Comets will need to clean up the mental mistakes if they are going to make a long run into the playoffs.

Dixon (5-2) 21-20 Genoa-Kingston (6-1) 2OT

The Dixon Dukes were able to takedown the Cogs and hand them their first loss of the season. The game had several delays due to the weather and it all came down to a missed extra point by the Cogs. The Dukes will face off with Winnebago Indians this upcoming Friday.

Other Scores:

North Boone (5-2) 49-18 Rock Falls (0-7)

Orion (7-0) 49-13 Morrison (2-5)

Fulton (4-3) 26-6 Riverdale (1-6)

Sherrard (2-5) 28-6 Erie-Prophetstown (1-6)

Milledgeville (7-0) 46-6 AFC (0-7)

Monday Morning Scoreboard

Newman (5-1) 75-14 Bureau Valley (2-4)

The Newman Comets made countless big plays in all phases of the game against a struggling Bureau Valley squad. Again, Connor McBride provided the big plays on offense and special teams. McBride, provided three scoring plays of 60 or more yards. The first came on a 65 yard punt return touchdown in the first quarter, the second was on a 85 yard scammper on a kick return early in the second quarter, and his third was on a 60 yard run just before halftime. McBride carried the ball 10 times for 120 yards. Luke Olsen also had a big day on offense carrying the ball nine times for 93 yards and a touchdown. Olsen also scored on a two-point conversion in the third quarter. Chase Graham was very effiecent carryng the ball only four times for 54 yards and three touchdowns. The Newman piled up the yardage with 416 yards, all of which came on the ground. The defense for the Comets completely shut down the Storm's rushing attack holding them to -23 yards. The Comets were also able to force three turnovers causing two fumbles and one interception. The Storm's quarterback Tyler Gustafson was productive and went 15 of 25 for 234 yards with two touchdowns. Also, reciever Kale Barnett made eight catches for 172 yards and a touchdown. The Comets improved to 5-1 on the season and will face off with Hall this upcoming Friday and the Storm fall to 2-4 and will matchup with Rockridge.

Oregon (2-4) 43-12 Rock Falls (0-6)

The Rock Falls Rockets had a tough loss against the Oregon Hawks last Friday night 43-12. The Rockets were close to taking the lead going into halftime when quarterback Cade Nailor led the Rockets down the field compleating 5-6 passes, but threw an interception in the redzone. The second half was all Hawks as they put up 29 unanswered points to get their second win of the season. The Rockets were dealing with some injuries, but in the previous two weeks they were able to put up 37 and 38 points. The Rockets will regroup and take on North Boone this Friday and Oregon will play Winnebago.

Sterling (6-0) 42-0 Ottawa (0-6)

The Sterling Golden Warriors punched their ticket to the playoffs with a dominating win on homecoming night against the Ottawa Pirates. The Pirates were overmatched against the effiecent and optunistic offense of the Golden Warriors who scored touchdowns on their first six drives of the game. The Golden Warriors scored all of their points in the first half. Negil Bruce carried the football only six times but accumalated 88 yards and a touchdown. Sterling remains undefeated and will matchup with the 3-3 Rochelle Hubs next. The Ottawa Pirates will continue to try and find its first win of the year against Geneseo.

Dixon (4-2) 38-28 Rockford Lutheran (1-5)

The Dixon Dukes for the first time this season were able to win back-to-back games as they took down Rockford Lutheran 38-28. The Dukes have battled inconsistancy all year, but were able to pull out another big win. The Dukes will have a tough finish to the season as they take on the undefeated Genoa-Kingston Cogs (6-0), the Winnabago Indians (3-3), and the highly talented and undefeated Byron Tigers (6-0). The Dukes four year playoff streak will be on the line.

Riverdale (1-5) 9-7 Morrison (2-4)

It was a game of defense as the Riverdale Rams edged out the Morrison Mustangs in an upset for their first win of the year. The Mustangs have stuggled on the offensive side of the ball all year and have failed to surpass 18 points in a game. The Mustangs will have to improve in all facets of the game if they are going to take down a very talented Orion Chargers team this upcoming Friday.
