Wintry Mix Transitioning to Snow as Colder Temperatures Rush in...

 

According to the National Weather Service, wintry mix is changing over to snow from west to east. Wintry mix will continue for a few more hours across western Illinois. With

the much colder temperatures across the area, residual moisture on the roadways is freezing. This will lead to areas of black ice tonight on untreated surfaces.

 

...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL MIDNIGHT CST

TONIGHT...

 

* WHAT...Light snow transitioning into black ice on the roadways.

  Any residual moisture on the roads will freeze with the low

  temperatures moving in.

 

* WHERE...Portions of eastern Iowa, western Illinois, and

  northeastern Missouri.

 

* WHEN...now to midnight.

 

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Black ice is nearly impossible to see and

  roadways may appear wet. Please use extreme caution, especially

  on bridges, overpasses and around curves. Allow plenty of

  stopping distance and avoid braking suddenly. Additionally,

  northwest winds will gust up to 35 mph.

 

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

 

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of freezing rain

will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads.
