Join us at the Sterling Public Library July 6, 10 – 11:30 to hear all about one person’s endeavor to save the monarch. Dee Lahey will present her efforts on raising and tagging monarch butterflies. Learn how to bring these and other pollinating friends to your garden. Walk-ins are welcome and there is no cost to attend. Tea Gardens At Thomson Library
Carroll County Extension Master Gardeners will offer a program on Tea Gardens at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 13 at the Thomson Library. What is a tea garden? Enjoy an afternoon learning all about the kinds of tea gardens and what plants to grow to enjoy your own herbal teas at home. Samples of tea will be enjoyed after the program. There are no fees to attend but registration is appreciated by calling the library at 815-259-2480.
Four Seasons Gardening Program Offers Summer Series
The summer series of University of Illinois Extension’s Four Seasons Gardening program, which focuses on environmental stewardship, home gardening, and backyard food production, gets underway this month. The first session of the series is titled, Using Essential Oils Safely. The program is offered on June 27 at 1:30 p.m. Sessions will be presented via computer at 3 locations within the Unit, Carroll County Extension Office, Mt. Carroll; Whiteside Extension Office, Sterling; and Lee County Extension Office, Amboy.
Essential oils have been growing in popularity, but some people are unsure of how to use them properly. Join Nancy Kreith, Horticulture Educator, as she leads you through the history, production, and safety of using essential oils.
Other topics in the summer series include Sustainable Lawn Care set for July 11 and Grow Your Own Backyard Tree Fruit: The Science of Tree Fruits Revealed set for July 25.
Cost per session is $5 (free for active Master Gardeners and Master Naturalists). Webinars will be offered at 1:30pm at three locations within the Unit, Carroll County Extension Office, Mt. Carroll; Whiteside Extension Office, Sterling; and Lee County Extension Office, Amboy. Advance registration is needed one week prior.
