Illinois State Police Report

Illinois State Police District One Commander, Lieutenant Carl Heintz, announced today that officer's will conduct special Traffic Enforcement Patrols (sTEP) between November 10th and 27th in Lee, Ogle and Whiteside Counties. District 1 Troopers will concentrate on speeding, failure to use occupant restraints, and other driving offenses as part of their enforcement efforts. The sTEP program involves a combination of increased enforcement and public information designed to raise public awareness and compliance to all traffic laws. Speeding is a contributing factor in 31 percent of all fatal crashes nationwide. In Illinois, speed-related crashes account for over 40 percent of all traffic fatalities. Safety Belt Enforcement Zones may also be used during the sTEP program. Troopers will enforce the primary safety belt law to ensure drivers and all of their passengers are buckled up. Every hour someone dies in America simply because they are not wearing their safety belt. Statistics show that half of all people killed in traffic crashes are not properly buckled up. You can save your life by driving safely and simply buckling up. This project is funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation, Division of Traffic Safety.

Rock Falls Police Seek Help with Nails Being Left in Various Driveways

Rock Falls Police Department would like the help of the citizens of Rock Falls, in identifying the young kids that are putting NAILS in random driveways all over town. This has went on all summer and primarily most times the NAILS are deposited sometime late Sunday night to early Monday mornings. Several residents have put up cameras and we can say for sure they appear to be young kids (11-16 year range) and at least one of the subjects is on a scooter.   PARENTS: If you are missing large amounts of NAILS recently, or your children have access to large amounts of nails please check on your children during the late hours to make sure they are home. We would assume that with the young age of these kids and the very late hour they are out roaming around, that their parents are not aware they have left the house.

Any information please call the Rock Falls Police Department at (815)622-1140.
